The 1988 911 Carrera was near the end of the era...they were replaced by the troulbe prone C4 in 1989 and the C2 in 1990. These are great drives with few issues. I have driven a few with over 250k and they still drive nice. This is the perfect summer driver and has had the money spent to keep it up to par. Has around 130K,NOT a show car but a great driver. Has some paint chips, a few dings in the hood, Tires are in poor condition, and the drivers seat has a torn bottom section. The left rear sway bar mount was damaged and has been repaired. Has had paint work on the rear and drivers side door. NO body damage in the main structure. I just want to be upfront about what I know about it. Exterior/ Wheels: 7/10Pros: Recent fix for dented rear quarter panel Fixed sunroof seal and mechanismFixed Headlight AssemblySylvania Silver Stars (high output halogens) both headlights / fogsNew OEM Porsche badge Staggered OEM BBS Mag wheels from 911 Carrera 15x8 / 15x9 balanced, tires corrected for negative camber 80% + meat left on tires1988 newer 944 rear hatch with third brake light, 944 spoilerReplaced rear hatch latch mechanism Replaced windshield wiper mechanism (car came with one working wiper)Cons: Paint job was not as meticulous as I would like, but it does not look bad at all. The car was painted Alpine White over Sable Brown (the original color, both Porsche color codes) relatively recently. The gold BBS´s truly complement the white, and the car sits with an aggressive amount of rake. The wheels could use a good polish to truly shine. The car paint is newer but needs a good buff to produce visual depth. The rear quarter was fixed very recently with a minimal amount of filler. Mechanicals: 7/10Pros: Performance throttle body spindle (quicker rev´s and better response)Just replaced thermostat, seals and clip (OEM unit) Replaced distributor, cap and wires with newer unitsSpark plugs replaced No bucking under loadRecent timing belt (under 20k, no papers unfortunately)Excellent coolant system efficiency Fluids replaced recently (tranny fluid, coolant, washer fluid)Recent vacuum hoses and circuits cleanedGood idle with no dip when blipping throttleNew Hood StrutsMMO + 93 octane with EVERY fill-up Clutch still good, bites hard and carries over useable RPM range at full throttleFuseboard (finally) fixed correctlyExpensive, blown relays replaced, spares includedCons:Tranny is noisy (much of it attributable to exhaust hangers needing replacement)Grinds sometimes going into reverse (have to coax it)The car has had timing belts done less than 20,000 miles ago and sits on engine mounts done at relatively the same time. After painstakingly cleaning out various internal components of the car including the throttle body, and cleaning and adjusting the idle control, the car runs brilliantly. I have flushed and filled the coolant twice, using various bleeding techniques and the car finally doesn´t mind sitting in traffic, for any amount of time. The fan kicks in right when the car gets to the third hash mark and keeps the engine in check (albeit noisy). The differential is getting noisy but does its job, and won´t need replacement unless you´re planning to hit the racetrack. Some of the noise can be attributed to the way that Porsche mounted the transmission in the 1983´s, which are hailed as the more reliable but gruff of the 944´s. I have replaced the transmission fluid less than 500 miles ago with a good brand GL5, and the car shifts confidently and smoothly into gear. Clutch does not feel due yet. I have ALWAYS put in 93 octane gas, and some kind of gas supplement like Lucas, MMO, or fuel injector cleaner every 3 fill-ups. Pulls hard and has never failed me, and to keep it kosher I always wait 5-10 minutes for the car to warm up, depending on the weather. Oil pressure rests at 5 PSI when warming up, and rests at 3 at idle as it should. Oil is clean and free of milkshake. I use Castrol 15-30w dino oil. Interior: 9/10Pros: Recently fixed and (incredible) surround sound system by Blaupunkt. Accompanying headunit has iphone connectivity, which works seamlessly for GPS and helps monumentally for long trips. The interior has been entirely reupholstered, with a warm burgundy and brown leather / cloth. The interior panels themselves look very new, and the carpet is clean all around. All of the interior lights work, and the windows have had recent servicing and go up and down as they should, even in cold weather. There are small blemishes however, limited to little nicks in various spots of the car and a small tear in the center armrest. The gas gauge and Temperature gauge can get twitchy, but a gentle tap on the hood can set it accurately. Iphone connectivity / charging has made this car a very fun place to be, and the sound system is very, very nice and crisp. I do not care for the non-matching lights on the aftermarket head-unit, but its utility grants it place in the vehicle. Suspension/Brakes/ HandlingPros:Manual steering rackRecently rebled brakes, brand new brake fluid (pads at 70% up front, longer life in rear)Completely revamped wheel bearings all four cornersNewer rear CV axlesJust installed new end links, joints and 1986 944 Turbo rear sway bar Suspension not dead yet, somewhat spongy but completely adept at tackling cornersPrecise manual steering rack Good brakes, not noisyCons: Suspension will be dead in 20k-30k milesThe suspension, while not brand new, have less miles and cannot yet be defined as ´floaty´. There is little play in the steering and control arms feel solid, still providing direct feedback (probably contributed to by the coveted manual steering rack). The brakes inspire confidence (Porsche´s long-time forte). However, the best modification I´ve done to this car is the rear turbo sway bar, which gives the car slight over-steer and gives the godly turn-in. Feels more like a go-kart with its incredibly willing footing. Logistics: The car has a clean title, is currently insured, registered and inspected. I have attempted to be as meticulous as I can in describing this vehicle. I have spent much, much time in the last several months fixing all of the problems this vehicle has posed, and this car has proved to be a jewel. Gets looks everywhere I go, and even gets lauded by pompous, butt-engined Porsche compatriots. I initially groaned at the notion of a manual steering rack and after a good amount of time with it, enjoy it even more with slightly bigger biceps to boot. It carves corners with ease, even on all-season tires, and has blared right up to life with no hesitation.
