Details: 1983 Porsche 944, Daily Driver. Runs good. I have done a ton of work on this car since I bought it. It would be a great restore father/son project or senior project. I have done the heavy lifting, just needs some finishing touches. The interior and the paint. If you look you can find these on craigslist for less, but you will have to put a ton of money in them to make them reliable. I have already done this. I have over $4500 in this 944. This a good looking 944, it is reliable and suitable as a daily driver. I have been using as my daily driver for the last year. I recently had my daughter move back in with me and now with two kids I need something with more room.Cons, and things I have done..New clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearings (Sachs, parts were $500, big labor job, the shop rates it at 16 hours of labor).New Clutch Masster CylinderNew ignition switch (from Porsche dealer)New real oil seal, had to do this one twice, the first one leaked (which I found is common with aftermarket seal) so I bought one from the Porsche dealer the second time.New shocks and strut inserts (KYB)New wheel bearings (both rear wheels, and passenger front)Repaced both radiator fans with 6 blade units form Porsche 968.New Fuse block under dash. Most of these have rust on the fuse block so I replaced with a brand new unit (it was fun!)Rear wiper delete kit. (these all short out and break, the delete kit is about $70)New plugs, cap and rotor.A/C R134 conversion with new condenser, expansion valve and 45 degree inlet valve and belt modification. Shop charges about $600 for this conversion. There is a slow leak in the system somewhere, but if you charge it up with R134 at the begining of the summer it will last all through the summer without a recharge. It shouldn´t be hard to find the leakPorsche Cayman newer style 17´ rims with low mile Michelin´s 255/50 ZR17 in back and 205/55 ZR17 up front. These are very nice rims and tires worth about $1000 used. they are genuine Porsche with center caps. These are one of the nicest parts of this car. Also have stock 15 in 944 rims (these are also nice looking but nothing like the rims that are on it now).I painted the car, but I am not a painter and the paint job did not turn out that good. I did use good Centari paint, and it is the same factory color that the car originally was. There is a lot of ´orange peel´ effect and the body work needed someone with more know how than me. I did correctly disassemble the car for painting so there isn´t over spray everywhere but it is going to need a paint job before it will be correctly restored. It still doesn´t look bad to the average person. The expert will quickly see the flaws.Will pass smog no problem. I have some extra parts and a Haynes manual. The Cons are.30 year old car..doesn´t drive like a 2012.. but it is a Porsche and it does look pretty cool!Interior is rough (I would say 5 out of 10). the previous owner started converting it from brown to black. I removed the head liner alltogether since it was really tore up. I have seen new headliners on Ebay for $50, but it takes some skill to get them glued in correclty.The wiring in these older Porsches is a little sketchy, so the gauges flutter around a little. The gas, temp and other gauges all work but if you tap the dash they will flutter around. The auto windows can be tempermental, sometimes the passenger window can only be raised by the master switch on the drivers side.The heater fan inside is staring to squeek and may need to be lubed or replaced at some point.Needs some body work and paint will need to be redone if you want to completely restore it.No Power steering. It is manual steering from the factory.Rear window deck lid leaks. Very common on all 944, can be fixed (just takes a little patience and work. Or can be replaced).Asking $3000 OBO with the Cayman rims, $2500 with the 944 rims. I would be open to trading for inboard/outboard boat of equal value, or possibly a wave runner, must be decent looking and not too old. Or trade for other vehicle of equal value what do you have? Trade for bike? I may thorw in some cash for the right bike, looking for a crusier like vstar (not goldwing style), Posibly trade for Green sticker 2 or 4 stroke must be late 90s or early 2000s.
