I originally bought this car about 2 years ago when I returned home from Baghdad and intended on fully restoring 100% to make it a show car. However I´m getting ready to be deployed again so I will have no time and the car is going to go. Low reserve so I priced the car to sell.The car is a 1981 Porsche 928 with 82,500 original miles on it. Clean car fax report. It is a guards red with beige interior, 5 speed car. The Porsche 928 was a sports/grand touring car sold by Porsche from 1978 to 1995. It was intended to replace the company´s iconic 911, attempting to combine the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan. Think of this as Porsche´s early two door version of the Panamera. This car has 219 naturally aspirated horsepower along with the ´Competition Package´ option. 0-60 times are approximately 7.3 seconds, turning the ¼ mile in about 15.6 seconds. The ´Competition Package´ option was created to allow North American customers to have an S model lookalike (the S was introduced in 1983) with spoilers, 16´ flat disc wheels, sport seats, sport springs and Bilstein shocks. The package was available in the 1981 and 1982 model years and was cancelled in 1983 when the S model became available for these markets. The competition rims have been removed and replaced by Porsche Cup 1 rims mounted on Pirelli tires with approximately 60% tread life left. The traditional steering wheel has been replaced by a MOMO three spoke, and the side rub rails have been deleted. This adds a much nicer and modern look to the car.The body of the car is in very good shape. There are no major dings, dents, or scratches and the paint is good. At some point in it´s life it was repainted the original Guard´s red. The paint is deep and glossy for the most part, and the car shows very well (I won 1st place at the local PCA show last year with 119/125 points.) but it is not perfect. The most notable feature is the front driver´s fender and the passenger side door. Here the clear coat of the paint has started to recede which results in mark in the paint. It is not noticeable when the car is in the sunlight, but on cloudy or overcast days it looks as if there is a watermark in the paint. There is also a scratch mark on the driver´s side glass and on the passenger side tail lamp. They were there when I got the car and only noticeable if you point them out.The interior of the car is just as nice. No rips and the dash is not cracked. There is normal wear and tear of the leather but again the car interior shows very nicely. The only real major flaw to the interior is the leather on the dash underneath the driver´s side vent has shrunk/pulled. The area is small and not really noticeable unless pointed out. Also the rear cargo carpet could stand to be replaced as the underneath of the carpet is pretty much degraded. It looks fine but when you lift the carpet the bottom flakes off. You can get these custom made with a Porsche logo for $140 or leave it if you want.Mechanically, I´ve done very well at the upkeep of the car. The car is mechanically sound and I would drive the car anywhere. Mechanically there is nothing major wrong with the car. No major leaks or malfunctions. I have a logbook and receipts of maintenance records dating back to 1989. If I was keeping the car they would done this summer. All of these issues were present when I bought the car and they have not hindered me driving the car over 3,000 miles since I´ve owned it. The radio works intermittently. It´s a cheap JVC headunit and really should be replaced. The high beam switch as well as the front light washer switch does not work and I was told it´s an issue in the tree to fix. There are two small leaks that I know of , one coming from the corked oil pan (common on these cars) and one from the power steering (I believe it to be coming from a hose that needs replacing. These are not bad, in fact even with the car sitting in winter storage, I still haven´t needed to add fluid to either. The biggest issue is that the syncros are starting to go. Noticable is first to second is starting to fade. This again is a typical problem with the manuals. It´s not bad, but if you try to speed shift from first to second you will get some grinding. Shifting normal is generally fine. I noticed this when I installed the short shifter, so I will include the original shifter in the sale. Finally there is a small electrical gremlin that I have yet to sort out. When the headlight are turned on I will get a tail lamp out warning. I hit the reset and it´s good to go so I believe it to be an issue with the new bulbs I replaced in the front and back. All lamps and lights work fine, nothing out, so I believe it to be bulb related.I have all the original books and manuals for the car. This includes the original air compressor, spare tire, and rear tool kit. Included with the sale will be a 928 International Sunscreen and an all weather car cover.I have attempted to represent this car to the best of my knowledge. Recent Mobil 1 engine and transmission oil change. VIN# WP0BA29942S635555. UPDATE: 2/25/2012I was going through the car fax that the dealer provided to me at the time of the purchase, and noticed that the rear main seal has been changed at 29k miles. I know some people asked about that in the past. Clutch was changed at 26k. Al lsorts of other dealer services were done and recorded by the carfax. So , yes, it was serviced properly. Coolant system was serviced at 60k with overflow tank changed 2 years ago, just to mention one of many services performed on that car.
